Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who resigned from the campaign committee and political affairs committee of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Congress, says he had already said this. People close to Ghulam Nabi Azad said that he had already asked the All India Congress Committee (AICC) not to give him any post in the state unit of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ghulam Nabi Azad was not sent to the Rajya Sabha by the party in the past and since then there were speculations that he had been sidelined. However, invitations were also sent to Ghulam Nabi Azad in meetings held in Jammu and Kashmir in the past. Ghulam Nabi Azad's supporters say that even though he was called and the meeting has taken place on the affairs of Kashmir. He was also given a post, but it was like demotion instead of promoting him. In such a situation, Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from those posts.
After Ghulam Nabi Azad, many of his supporters also resigned from the post after being insulted by Congress. It is being told that Ghulam Nabi Azad had written a letter regarding his decision and told Sonia Gandhi. He had stepped down citing organisational and personal reasons. Azad's supporters say panels were formed without adequate discussion and many deserving people were left.
