When he was issued a show cause notice, Abdullaqutty failed to give a satisfactory reply. The State party chief, Mullappally Ramachandran, issued a press release saying that the response given by Abdullaquti was very contemptuous and not satisfactory. He said that, "his explanation is not acceptable to the party and even after being given a show cause notice for praising PM Modi, he continued to criticize the party leaders of the state."

Ramachandran's statement said that, "Therefore, he has been expelled from the Congress party for violating party discipline." Reacting in the case, Abdullaqutty has said that "there is no need to seek clarifications either then only it was clear that I would be ousted. "
