AHMEDABAD: In a bid to protest against inflation and unemployment, Gujarat Congress has given a symbolic bandh call in the state on Saturday, September 10.
The Congress party has appealed to the traders and other business organisations to pull down their shutters from 8 am. to 12 pm.
Jagdish Thakor, president of the party's state unit, urged people to participate in the bandh call in order to express their opposition to inflation, unemployment, and the lack of regular employment opportunities for contract employees.
Thakor said that 4,36,663 competent youths were unemployed, and that even though there are 4.50 lakh open government positions, 4,58,976 unemployed youth have registered with the state employment exchange office.
More than 27,000 teaching posts remain unfilled, while hundreds of government libraries lack regular librarians and local panchayats operate without Gram Sevak administrators.
Talking about inflation, Thakor said that the cost of edible oil has reached a record high of Rs 3,000, that the cost of a gas cylinder has risen to Rs 1,060, that the cost of gasoline has reached Rs 95, and that the cost of compressed natural gas has reached Rs 84 per kilo. "All of these items have an impact on the lives of the people," said Thakor.
He has given orders to all district and city Congress committees and employees to make sure that the bandh call did not interfere with critical services.
