New Delhi: After massive defeat in Lo Sabha election 2019, there were speculation that Congress President Rahul Gandhi is insisting on resigning as the president of the Congress . Now, amid the rumours, the party on Monday nearly confirmed that no such thing was going to happen.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala advised the people not to speculate on the May 25 Congress Working Committee (CWC) meet at which Rahul Gandhi offered to resign as the party chief. CWC members had refused to accept the resignation. However, it has been reported that Rahul is adamant on stepping down and wants the party to find his replacement.

Surjewala said the sanctity of the closed-door meet should be respected, adding speculations and gossips regarding the same are unwarranted.
