Ranchi: A reply given by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in a TV debate was followed by violent protests in several states on Friday (June 10, 2022). Prominent among them are Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, etc. Police were attacked in Ranchi, over which the police opened fire and two rioters were killed. In view of the violence, Section 144 was imposed in several areas of Ranchi and internet services were also suspended. A heavy police force has been deployed at many places. CCTV footage, videos, etc. are being used to identify the culprits.

The names of the two criminals who were killed in police firing in Ranchi are said to be Mudassir alias Kaifi and Mohammad Sahil. The police were forced to open fire when they started pelting stones and vehicles were broken. Some reports have also said that there was firing from the rioters.

In Jharkhand, Congress MLA from Jamtara Irfan Ansari raised questions on the police instead of the rioters. Condemning the police over the firing, he demanded action on Ranchi SP City and Rs 50 lakh and a government job to the families of those who died. An effigy of Nupur Sharma was hanged near a Dargah on Fort Road in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. On the complaint of BJP and Hindutva leaders, the police removed the effigy. Hindu organisations have demanded strict action against those who do so. According to DCP Belagavi, the police have registered a case in the case and launched a manhunt for the culprit.
