Mumbai: Congress veteran and former Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday suggested that the central government should use the gold reserves lying in all religious trusts of the country during this crisis of Corona epidemic. He said that it will help at least Rs 76 lakh crore to deal with the corona virus crisis.
Chavan tweeted that, "The government should immediately take control of the gold lying in all religious trusts in the country, which according to the World Gold Council has been valued at least one trillion dollars. But gold can be taken through bonds. This is an emergency. " When contacted by the media, former CM Prithviraj Chavan said that his idea is very simple.
The Congress leader further said that religious trusts in the country have gold worth Rs 76 lakh crore, that is, about one trillion dollars. If this gold is taken from these trusts at a nominal interest rate, then it can be spent to improve the condition of the lower middle and poor class.
