New Delhi: Actress Kangana Ranaut is in the headlines for her statement regarding independence. In a program on a TV channel, Kangana had called the independence she got in 1947 as begging. Now the Mahila Congress has expressed objection to this. Along with this, President Ram Nath Kovind has demanded to withdraw the Padma Shri award given to Kangana.

Women's Congress Working President Nata D'Souza has written to President Ram Nath Kovind saying Kangana Ranaut insulted freedom fighters, insulted the Constitution and mocked the freedom movement. In such a situation, appropriate action should be taken against her and Padma Shri should be withdrawn from her. Earlier, Mumbai's AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon has also lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police against Kangana Ranaut. She has accused Kangana Ranaut of allegedly making seditious and provocative statements.

Earlier, BJP MP Varun Gandhi had also slammed Kangana. He tweeted Kangana's video and wrote that "Sometimes an insult to Mahatma Gandhiji's sacrifice and penance, sometimes respect for her murderer, and now insult the sacrifices of martyrs Mangal Pandey to Rani Lakshmibai, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and millions of freedom fighters. What should I call this thinking- Madness or Traitor?''
