Bina: Nirmala Sapre, the Congress MLA representing the Bina assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, just days before the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 7.

Expressing her reasons for the move, Sapre stated, "One cannot bring development to the region while being in Congress, because there's neither a government nor an agenda. When the entire nation and state are experiencing development, why should our Bina be left out?" Highlighting her dissatisfaction with the Congress, Sapre mentioned that over the past six months, she felt her work was not being accomplished in her constituency.

She said, "Under the leadership of PM Modi and the state's leader Mohan Yadav, I have come here today to join them for development." Sapre joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at Rahatgarh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav welcomed her to the party by presenting her with a BJP shawl and administering the party membership. Sapre sought his blessings by touching his feet, followed by chants of "Jai Shri Ram."

In the 2023 elections, out of eight assembly constituencies in the Sagar district, Nirmala Sapre was the lone Congress candidate who won the Beena assembly seat.

Madhya Pradesh is conducting its Lok Sabha polls in four phases. The first phase of polling took place on April 19, and the second phase concluded on April 26. The next two phases will be held on May 7 and May 13. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.

With 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, Madhya Pradesh ranks sixth among all states in terms of its representation in the Lower House. Out of these, 10 seats are reserved for SC and ST candidates, while the remaining 19 are unreserved.
