Ahmedabad: Congress MLA Geniben Thakor from Vav seat in Gujarat's Banaskantha district has once again made a controversial statement. Addressing a function organised by the Congress Seva Dal in Gandhinagar on the occasion of International Women's Day, MLA Geniben Thakor said women should not wait for police or government help to help in cases of atrocities against them.
The Congresswoman MLA said, "Whenever there is atrocity or injustice to a woman, without waiting for the help of the police or the government, 50 women from nearby areas should come together and the culprit should be poured petrol and burned among the people.'' Another Congress MLA, Chandrikaben Baria, in her address at the same event, said that the eyes of those sitting in the "rapist BJP government" should be taken away.
Chandrikaben Baria, who represents the Garbara constituency of the Scheduled Tribe (ST), said, "I am sorry to say that we have to face goons in this BJP government. The eyes of those who look at women (with evil intentions) will be taken out. SP Mayur Chavda said that permission was given to hold the programme on the occasion of Women's Day, but some people made provocative and incendiary statements. After which the march was announced. It was a deliberate conspiracy.
