Chandigarh: Congress continues to grapple with internal turmoil as reports emerge suggesting key members may defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Amidst speculation surrounding Kamal Nath's potential move to the BJP, significant developments have surfaced in Punjab regarding Congress MP Manish Tiwari.

Sources indicate that Manish Tiwari, the Congress MP representing Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, is in talks with the BJP and considering joining the party. It is reported that Tiwari aims to contest the upcoming elections from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency under the BJP's banner instead of Anandpur Sahib. According to BJP insiders, the party has a strong candidate for the Ludhiana seat, presenting a dilemma regarding Tiwari's potential entry into the BJP fold.

Manish Tiwari, a prominent figure in Indian politics, is not only a Member of Parliament but also a seasoned lawyer. He previously served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting during the UPA government from 2012 to 2014. Prior to his tenure in Anandpur Sahib, Tiwari represented Ludhiana in the 17th Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014. He also held the position of Congress spokesperson during the UPA regime. Tiwari's political journey spans decades, beginning with his leadership roles in student and youth organizations. He served as President of the Indian National Students Union from 1988 to 1993 and later as President of the Indian Youth Congress (I) from 1998 to 2000.

Despite facing setbacks, including an electoral defeat in 2004, Tiwari bounced back to win the 2009 Lok Sabha elections by defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate. However, in March 2014, he opted out of contesting the Lok Sabha elections due to health reasons. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Tiwari's potential move to the BJP underscores the ongoing flux within the Congress party and the shifting dynamics of Indian politics.
