New Delhi: In the Upper House of Parliament today, a member of Congress claimed the closure of about 400 Indian fishermen in the jails of Karachi, Pakistan. The demand was kept regarding this issue during Zero Hour saying the government should make some efforts for fishermen to get released soon and also their boats to be brought back by Shakti Singh Gohil of Congress.  He has said that a large part of Gujarat's coastline is adjacent to Pakistan.

Shakti Singh has said that Pakistani marines take Indian fishermen fishing on the beach every day. In addition, they also take boats of these fishermen. Gohil has said that about 400 such Indian fishermen are imprisoned in the Karachi jails of Pakistan. Around 1100 boats of these fishermen are also in the possession of Pakistan. Shakti Singh demanded from the government that these fishermen should be released and these and their boats should be brought back soon.

He also said that between 2007-10, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAIG) had noted alleged irregularities in the amount spent for the vessel tracking system in its report. According to him, CAIG had also said that these boats taken to protect the beach were not even running. Gohil has urged the government to take this issue seriously.
