New Delhi: The congress, the country's oldest political party, may get a permanent president on June 23. In fact, internal elections have been announced in Congress. Sources say the there will be voting for Congress president post on June 23. In a meeting of the Congress Working Committee, organisation general secretary KC Venugopal has announced the date of elections.
Rahul Gandhi stepped aside as Congress president after his defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Thereafter, several attempts were made to persuade him, but he did not agree to become the Congress president again. Sonia Gandhi was then appointed interim president of the Congress. The Congress's is still in Sonia's hands. The same question is once again being raised whether Rahul Gandhi agrees to take up the post now or not. The issue had also come up in the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting earlier when rebel leaders demanded internal elections.
Sonia Gandhi has talked about not adopting the Post of Congress President for several times, but when Rahul decided not to continue in office after the Lok Sabha elections, Sonia Gandhi had no other way. The Congress party is facing a crisis again that it is not able to find a leader.
