New Delhi: The election to the post of Congress party president has been postponed once again. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) has decided to postpone the election due to corona. According to sources, the meeting said that it would not be right to hold elections in the current situation of corona epidemic and hence it has been decided to postpone it. In the last CWC meeting, the Central Election Authority had decided to hold elections on June 23.

Rahul Gandhi resigned as president after the Congress party's defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sonia Gandhi then became the interim president of the party. But even after 2 years, the party president has not been elected. Rahul Gandhi was believed to be the president by this June. The Congress party's election to the president has been postponed at a time when several party leaders are recommending early organisation elections. The demand was made by 23 senior party leaders in a letter to interim president Sonia Gandhi. These leaders have also said several times that the party is suffering due to organisation elections and non-availability of full-time presidents.

The Congress party has also suffered a crushing setback in the recently concluded assembly elections. Apart from Tamil Nadu, the party has got very disappointing results everywhere else. In West Bengal, the account could not be opened, where the Congress has ruled for a long time.
