Bhubaneswar: In a significant organizational shakeup, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the dissolution of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) effective immediately. This decision follows the party's disappointing performance in both the Lok Sabha and assembly elections held recently in the state.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Congress party confirmed that the dissolution encompasses all levels of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. This includes the OPCC President, office bearers, executive committee members, as well as the District, Block, and Mandal Congress Committees. Additionally, all frontal organizations, departments, and cells associated with the OPCC have also been disbanded.

The statement noted that current District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents will continue to serve in an acting capacity until new DCC Presidents are appointed. Sarat Pattanayak, who previously held the position of OPCC President, will no longer be part of the committee following this decision.

The move is part of the Congress party's broader strategy to address the electoral setbacks and reorganize its structure in Odisha. The party aims to rejuvenate its leadership and improve its performance in future elections by addressing the internal challenges that contributed to its recent poor showing.

This dissolution reflects the party's ongoing efforts to recalibrate its strategy and reassert its presence in the state, which has been a significant battleground in Indian politics. The Congress leadership hopes that this overhaul will lead to a more effective and dynamic organization capable of addressing the political and electoral challenges ahead.
