New Delhi: Interim President of Congress Sonia Gandhi has come out on the violence that erupted in Delhi against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). She has appealed to the people of Delhi to maintain communal harmony and to thwart the wrong designs of the religious forces dividing the country on the basis of religion.

In a statement issued here, Sonia Gandhi expressed her condolences to the bereaved family while expressing deep grief and sorrow over the death of head constable Ratan Lal who was killed in the violence. She called on the countrymen that violence of any kind can have no place in Mahatma Gandhi's India. There is no place for those forces in the country who want to impose their communal and divisive ideology on India.

Let us tell you that there was fierce violence on Monday in North East Delhi regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Sources have been told that so far 6 people including a policeman have been killed in this violence. IPS officer ACP Gokulpuri Anuj Kumar is also injured in stone pelting. He has been admitted to Max Hospital Patparganj. Seriously injured DCP Shahdara Amit Sharma is undergoing surgery.
