Amritsar: CM Amarinder Singh held a meeting with All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and Congress Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat on Saturday. After the meeting, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh said that any decision taken by the Congress president will be acceptable to all. It may be recalled that Rawat has gone to Chandigarh amidst growing infighting in the Punjab Congress due to differences between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu.
There are speculations that cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu may be made president of the Congress unit in Punjab. Rawat reached Chandigarh by helicopter at 12 noon and went directly to cm's farm house in Mohali. Earlier in the day, Amarinder Singh had written to party working president Sonia Gandhi objecting to Navjot Singh Sidhu's important post.
Rawat's visit is seen as an attempt to persuade Amarinder Singh. Amarinder Singh is said to have said that Sidhu 's (Jat Sikh) being made the party's president in the state could anger senior party leaders representing the Hindu community and could damage the party's prospects in the 2022 assembly elections.
