New Delhi: Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi held a meeting with party leaders at her residence. The meeting was attended by the Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled state. During the meeting, Sonia told the Chief Ministers of the party-ruled states that the party organization will not be ignored in the glare of power. With continuous direct communication with Congress workers, the party chief ministers will also have to play an important role in the concrete goal of expanding the organization and increasing membership in the state. Sonia Gandhi, during her talks with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Monday, gave the direction to the party to come out of the current political challenges.

It was Baghel's first meeting with Sonia after she re-assumed the command of the Congress president. Party sources said Sonia had clearly stated that it was only through a strong organization in the states that the Congress would be the path to political comeback. That is why it is equally important to give priority to the functioning of the government as well as to focus on the party. Sonia told Baghel that the constant dialogue between the state Congress cadres and the state government is inevitable for coordination in the organization of power.

In the meantime, the Congress President advised to take up the party's membership drive seriously with the strength of the organization at the district and block level in the province. Sonia Gandhi has started the process of meeting the leaders of the province after re-assuming the party's command. During the visit, she is also looking at possible changes in the organization besides discussing the removal of Congress from the political crisis. The meeting assumes the crucial issue of the forthcoming assembly elections.
