NEW DELHI: The Congress has lost power in Karnataka after losing a vote of confidence on Tuesday. Now, only four states and one Union Territory have their governments left. With the collapse of the coalition government in Karnataka, the Congress in South India is no longer in power in any state, though the Union is in Puducherry. Last year, the Congress retained power in Karnataka with the JD(S) forming a government in the state. The Congress is now in power in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Puducherry.
In this year's Lok Sabha elections, the Congress once again suffered a bitter defeat like the 2014 general elections. Nearly two months after the collapse of the government in Karnataka, the collapse is seen as a major setback for the party. The BJP and its allies are currently in power in a total of 16 states in the country, including politically important Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In Karnataka, in the event of government formation, the party will be in power in a total of 17 states along with its allies.
After a four-day debate on the motion of confidence, H.K. D. Kumaraswamy's government has fallen. The Congress and JD(S) coalition government led by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy could not win a confidence vote in the Assembly on Tuesday. 20 MLAs did not attend the house for a confidence vote in the 225-member Karnataka Assembly. Assembly Speaker K. enmity. Ramesh Kumar told the members of the House after the confidence vote that Chief Minister H.K. Singh was not present at the meeting. D. Kumar Swami could not win the trust vote. He said, there are 99 votes in favor of the trust vote while 105 votes have been cast against it.
