Kochi: Congress will once again beat Kerala assembly elections under the leadership of former CM Oommen Chandy. The top Congress leadership on Monday set up a committee led by Oommen Chandy to oversee the party's election campaign and management work. However, Congress will not declare any leader as the CM candidate before the election to avoid internal strife of the party.
The results did not come in favor of the Congress even after the heel peak was insisted in the recent local body elections in Kerala. Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi met top leaders of the state and reviewed the preparations for the assembly elections. The top Congress leadership had given a guideline to the state leaders to work together. Moreover, the Kerala Congress leadership had also talked about landing new and young faces in the fray this time by giving more and more tickets.
The defeat in the local body elections had declared a Jubani war among Congress leaders in Kerala. Even then, Oommen Chandy, state Congress unit president Mullappally Ramachandran and leader of opposition Ramesh Chennithala, veteran party leader AK Antony and Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal, and party in-charge Tariq Anwar met together. There were talks between Congress leaders on Kerala, whose Anwar visited the diocese earlier this month.
