Bhopal: Congress has announced its Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh. The party has selected senior leader Ashok Singh from Gwalior district as its Rajya Sabha candidate. Ashok Singh has also been seen contesting elections from Gwalior Lok Sabha seat several times.

Reports say that Congress's Ashok Singh has filed his candidature from Gwalior Lok Sabha constituency four times and not only this, despite contesting many elections, he has not been successful even once. In the 2007 Lok Sabha by-election, Ashok Singh, who contested for the first time on Congress ticket, was defeated by BJP's Yashodhara Raje Scindia by 35 thousand votes.

 In 2009, Ashok Singh again became a candidate from Congress and lost to Yashodhara Raje by just 26 thousand votes, whereas in the Modi wave of 2014 too, Ashok Singh lost to BJP's Narendra Singh Tomar by 29 thousand votes.

Digvijay faction's Congress leader Ashok Singh's grandfather late Kakka Singh Dongar was a freedom fighter and father Rajendra Singh had also been an MLA from Congress. Not only this, Ashok Singh's family has been a Congressman and before this he was elected as the Chairman of Apex Bank in the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh. He was holding the post of Treasurer in the State Committee of Congress some time ago. Congress leader Ashok Singh has a hotel business and also does agricultural work.
