In the midst of the Corona crisis, three Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs have left the party and joined the Congress. Apart from this, a total of six MLAs, including four National People's Party (NPP) MLAs, have withdrawn support from the government. After withdrawing the support of a total of nine MLAs, the BJP government headed by N. Biren Singh has come into a minority. The 60-member assembly currently has 59 members. The BJP has 18 of its MLAs, four MLAs of the Naga People's Front and one of the LJP MLAs. In such a situation, the Congress is going to bring a no-confidence motion against the government.

In his statement, Congress Legislature Party leader O Ibobi Singh said that his party is trying to form a coalition government in Manipur and will soon bring a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government. Addressing a press conference late on Wednesday night, Singh said that the three BJP MLAs who have resigned from the assembly and the party have joined the Congress.

Further, Singh said that he approached all four ministers of the National People's Party (NPP) to discuss the latest political developments in the state, who have resigned from the BJP-led coalition government. Former Chief Minister Singh said that his party would bring a no-confidence motion against the government of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and would soon contact Speaker Yunam Khemchand Singh to call a special session of the Assembly.
