New Delhi: After the Congress' humiliating performance in the assembly elections held in 5 states, the congress working committee (CWC) meeting blamed the allies for the defeat. In the CWC meeting, Congress in-charge Jitin Prasada blamed the alliance with ISF for not even opening the Bengal account, while party leaders including Digvijay Singh questioned his association with Badruddin Ajmal for the setback in Assam.

In the CWC meeting, several party leaders suggested setting up of a central committee to decide further alliances in different states. Reportedly, there were several members in the meeting who questioned the party alliance in both the states- Bengal and Assam. In Bengal, everyone considered alliance with Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui's party and left as the reason for the Congress' defeat. In Assam, it was termed as wrong to join the AIUDF.

The meeting said that while joining hands with AIUDF and ISF in Assam and Bengal gave the BJP an opportunity to polarise, the reason for the crushing setback in Kerala was over confidence. After hearing everyone's words, Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi decided to set up a committee to defeat the electoral states. The committee will go to the election states and prepare a report in consultation with party workers, candidates to the top leadership of the state and submit it to the Congress chief.
