Hartalika Teej is celebrated on the third day of the bright half of the Bhadrapada month. This year, Hartalika Teej falls on September 18th, a Monday. It is also known as Haritalika Teej. This festival is associated with Lord Shiva, and 'Har' is another name for Lord Shiva, making Hartalika Teej auspicious. Women observe a vow of fasting on this day, primarily to seek a desired and suitable husband, although any woman can observe this fast. If a woman is pregnant, she can also observe Hartalika Teej, but there are some specific rules to follow.

Consult your doctor:
Due to the delicacy of pregnancy, it's essential to consult your doctor before undertaking any kind of fast. Pregnancy requires special attention to ensure the health of both the mother and the child.

Do not observe a waterless fast:
Usually, married women observe a Nirjala (waterless) fast on this day, but pregnant women should not follow this. If they wish to observe the fast, they should consume some liquid refreshments throughout the day. Coconut water, fruit juices, milk, or buttermilk are commonly consumed. The mother should stay hydrated and be mindful of the baby's movements. Avoid consuming tea or coffee during the fast.

Avoid fasting during the first trimester:
The first three months of pregnancy are crucial, as this is when the baby's development is rapid, and the mother often experiences increased appetite and cravings. It is essential not to fast during this time and ensure that both the mother and baby receive proper nutrition.

Avoid certain activities:
On this day, some activities should be avoided by pregnant women. Married women often engage in swinging (jhoola) and staying awake throughout the night in prayer. Pregnant women should refrain from these activities to prevent fatigue.

In summary, pregnant women can observe Hartalika Teej with modifications. Consultation with a doctor is crucial, and it's essential to ensure proper hydration and nutrition. Fasting should be done with some liquid intake, and during the first trimester, fasting is not advisable. Additionally, certain activities that may cause fatigue should be avoided.
