On Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that several projects related to border infrastructure are underway in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. Gadkari said that BRO and NHIDCL are working on these projects. He said that work on 17 strategic highways and airstrips is underway. Three of these projects have been completed. The ambitious project of Rs. 12,000 crore is in full swing. After completion of this project Gangotri, Connectivity connecting Kedarnath, Yamunotri, and Badrinath will be developed in every season. This statement of Gadkari has come at a time when there is tension on the border between India and China.
In his statement, Gadkari said that the Border Roads Organization (BRO) has achieved great success by successfully completing the 440-meter-long tunnel under the Chamba city on the Rishikesh-Dharasu National Highway. Out of the projects, three projects have been completed. Most of these projects are from the border areas. The rest of the projects are also in progress.
He said that work on these projects is going on with the cooperation of the Ministry of Defense. These projects are being developed in such a way that these highways can be used for unloading and flying planes if needed. Previously, a committee of officials from the Ministry of Highways and Ministry of Defense was formed to prepare plans for these highway projects.
