New Delhi: The impact of the global epidemic corona virus is now clearly visible on IT companies, due to which the layoffs have started. The country's IT giant Cognizant has started retrenchment of employees from its offices in different cities of the country. This claim has been made by IT Employees Union.

There is no concrete information about how many people the company has laid off, but it is believed that hundreds of employees have been laid off. All India Forum for IT Employee (AIFITE) General Secretary AJ Vinod has told that Cognizant has laid off hundreds of employees from Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Kochi and Kolkata offices. AIFITE told the Labor Department and the government that about 18,000 employees are on the bench. The bench means that they have no project to work on right now. In such a situation, the risk of losing their job is quite high.

In October 2019, the company's CEO Brian Humphire announced that in the coming time the company will lay off 13,000 employees worldwide. However, Corona's name did not appear to the world at that time. At that time, the company had said that 6000 of these 13 thousand employees would be from the content moderation business that the company does for Facebook. He also said that the company will make efforts to re-skill 5000 of these employees and re-hire them.
