The famous television TV singing reality show Indian Idol 12 has been in the news for the past several days. The show is alleged to have invited guests here and asked them to praise the contestants. Singer-composer Salim Merchant, who has judged several reality shows, has reacted to it. Remember, Salim Merchant himself was a judge of Indian Idol.
In the same interview, Salim Merchant was asked if he too was asked to praise the contestants while judging the show. Salim in reply admitted that he had been told so, but he never did so. In an interview to RJ Siddharth Kanan, Salim Merchant said, "Yes, it has happened to me as well. But to be honest, I never listened to him. Perhaps that is why I am not sitting in a judge's seat today".
Salim said, "I don't praise them because I have been asked to praise them. I admire them because I see merit in someone's flaws rather than finding fault with them. If I admire his quality, I probably believe that the singer can do better. It happens. You have to be generous with your comments. It has happened to me so many times that the directors of the show said please don't be negative. But I am a little smart in this case. I always make a reduction. But I remove it well".
