New Delhi: Cricket fans around the world are always waiting for a cricket match between India and Pakistan. The rivalry between these two teams is well known. The two teams also came face to face in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The entire cricketing world was watching the match. History changed in this match and Pakistan thrashed India in a World Cup for the first time. But what happened next is disappointing. After the match, some controversial incidents caught the attention of the people, tarnishing the image of both cricket and cricketers, especially Pakistan cricketers. Today, we are going to tell you about some such incidents.
Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets in this match. India pacer Mohammed Shami was then trolled by some people. Shami, as a Muslim, was called very bad and accused of being a supporter of Pakistan. Shami also received abusive comments. On social media, someone called Shami a Pakistani, and someone called him a sold. However, many users in India also supported Shami and described him as the true hero of Team India. It is also worth noting that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma came under the scanner of the fans immediately after losing the match. But as soon as some time passed, Shami's narrative began to be increased. Some also say that a Muslim victim card was played in Shami's name to cover up the celebrations in India over Pakistan's victory. Pakistan's victory had led to fireworks in many places in India and reports of it are still littering social media.
Pakistan's victory came after many years and therefore it was a luxury to celebrate there, but Pakistan Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed presented the victory as a religious colour. He termed the victory as a victory for Islam. Sheikh released a video saying, 'It was our final today. Muslims from all over the world as well as the Sentiments of Muslims of India were also with the Pakistan team. Happy victory to all Islam.' However, those who gathered sympathy in Shami's name remained silent on the issue.
Former Pakistan bowler Waqar Younis made a similar controversial statement after which he was also criticised. Waqar had termed the prayer during wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan's drinks break as the most important moment of the match. He had said, "Rizwan's best thing was that he stood on the ground and offered prayers, which was also very special to me among the Hindus.'' Waqar was widely criticised after the statement came to light. After which he tweeted an apology.
