New Delhi: Argentina's star footballer and captain Lionel Messi has seen a tremendous passion for the country and the game in a match. In fact, Copa America has advanced to the final of the tournament by winning the Argentina penalty shootout against Colombia in the semi-finals. Messi suffered a leg injury while playing in the same match and blood started dripping from his ankle.
Even then, Messi did not step down from the field and continued to play to win the country. Fans, including veterans, took to social media to praise him for this. A social media user wrote, 'If there was someone else, he would have left the field, but Messi always plays for the team. He showed it. The first goal of the semi-final was scored by Lautaro Martinez in the 7th minute for Argentina. The goal was assisted by Messi. Argentina took a 1-0 lead in the first half with the same goal. But for Colombia in the second half, Luis Diaz scored in the 61st minute to level the match.
Meanwhile, in the 55th minute of the match, Colombia's Frank Febra hit Messi on the leg while snatching the ball. This led to blood coming out of Messi's ankle. The referee also showed Febra a yellow card. The match ended in a draw. Then, even in extra time, both the teams could not score. After which, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez emerged as the hero in the penalty shoot-out who saved three penalties and took the team to the final.
