The auto sector had not yet recovered from the recession that had been going on for almost a year now that Corona's havoc was proving to be her backbreaker. Due to supply related problems, there has been a huge decline in the sales of the country's leading auto companies in the month of February. Mahindra & Mahindra has seen a 42% decline in sales and a 34% decline in Tata sales. The country's leading vehicle manufacturing company Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Sunday said that total sales of its vehicles in the month of February were down by 42% to 32,476 in the previous year. In February last year, the company sold a total of 56,005 vehicles. The company said in a regulatory filing that last month it sold 30,637 vehicles in the domestic market, which is 42% lower than the 52,915 vehicles sold in the same month last year. Sales of Mahindra's passenger vehicles (including utility vehicles, cars, vans) stood at 10,938 in February this year as compared to 26,109 in the same month last year. The sales of commercial vehicles were 15,856 in February this year, there were 21,154 in the same month last year.

Tata sales fell 34 percent

In February, sales of another automaker Tata Motors fell by 34%. Tata Motors said that in February it had sold just 38,002 vehicles in the domestic market. The company sold 57,221 vehicles in the same month last year. Simultaneously, Mayank Pareek, president of Tata Motors' passenger vehicle business unit, said, "Vehicle production and wholesale sales have been affected due to the Corona outbreak in China and a large vendor fire. Domestic sales of the company's commercial vehicle have fallen by 35%. The outbreak of the Coronavirus in China has hampered the supply of many devices and has also affected the transition operation to BS6."

Maruti Suzuki sold 1.47 lakh cars in February

Maruti Suzuki India said that in February it sold a total of 1,47,110 cars. In the same period last year, the company sold 1,48,682 cars. Sales have fallen by 1.1% on an annual basis. The company said in a regulatory filing that domestic sales fell by 3.6% in February and 1,34,150 cars were sold. Exports grew by 7.1% in the reporting period and 10,261 cars were exported. Last month, the company sold a total of 1,36,912 vehicles in India, out of which 1,33,702 were passenger vehicles and the rest were commercial vehicles.
