New Delhi: In a move to intensify the supply of vaccines after the decision to open corona vaccination to all citizens above the age of 18 years, the government has approved Rs 4,500 crore to Serum Institute of India (SII) and Bharat Biotech for future vaccine supply.

Sources said, the government will supply 20 crore doses SII by July, while India will give 9 crore doses to biotech. 150 per dose has been fixed for this purpose. Sources said the Finance Ministry has relaxed rules to allow vaccine manufacturers to pay upfront without a bank guarantee to assist them in production. 3,000 crore as advance to SII and about Rs 1,500 crore to Bharat Biotech. Earlier this month, SII CEO Adar Poonawala had said that the company needed Rs 3,000 crore to increase the production capacity of the corona vaccine.

The Central Government had announced on Monday that all people above the age of 18 years will be able to get the vaccine to prevent corona from May 1. At the same time, the government also allowed states, private hospitals, and industrial establishments to buy doses directly from vaccine manufacturers, exempting vaccination drives.
