Corona hits auto sector, two-wheeler sales drop drastically

New Delhi: The automobile sector has suffered heavy losses due to the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of Corona. Compared to the previous year, there has been a significant decline of 49.59 per cent in the sales of passenger vehicles in June. In June this year, this sales came down to 1,05,617 units as compared to 2,09,522 units sold in the same month last year.

Giving information on Tuesday, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has said that the auto sector is still trying to recover from the damage caused by the nationwide lockdown to prevent the Coronavirus epidemic. According to the latest SIAM figures, two-wheeler sales have also seen a big decline of 38.56 percent. In the same month last year, 16,49,475 two-wheelers were sold, this figure has come down to just 10,13,431 this year.

Bike sales in June 2019 were 10,84,596 units, which was reduced to 7,02,970 in June 2020. Talking about the sale of the scooter, it has been reduced by 47.37 per cent to 2,69,811 units as compared to 5,12,626 units in the same month last year. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), an association of vehicle dealers, retail sales of passenger vehicles declined by 86.97 percent in May, with only 30,749 vehicles sold in May. 2,35,933 units were sold in May 2019.
