In response to a question, he said, the Chinese government attaches great importance to the health and safety of overseas Chinese citizens. The decision to evacuate Chinese citizens is being taken at a time when India has joined the 10 countries of the world worst affected by the coronavirus.

Under the second phase of Vande Bharat Mission, the government is planning to bring back one lakh citizens trapped in 60 countries. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. The second phase of the mission was first to end on 22 May. However, the government extended it till 13 June. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with all agencies and ministries involved in this massive campaign on Tuesday. He tweeted that the purpose of the meeting was to expand the Vande Bharat Mission and increase its capacity. The second phase of the mission started on 17 May.
