The number of infected people is constantly increasing, while taking special care of this, the government has implemented many rules like lock down, while the Punjab government is going to start selling liquor in the state from next week. The state government will also start selling liquor in select areas under the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to start business related to essential commodities in red, orange and green zones in the country in view of Covid-19.

According to the information received, the state government has decided to open the sale of liquor but for this all the necessary formalities are yet to be completed. Sources said that orders will be issued by the state government in this regard on the following Monday. It is believed that liquor shops will also open in the Orange and Green zones from 9 am to 1 pm. During this time, the guidelines related to the protocol laid down under Covid-19 will be made sure. The CMO official said that the government will announce the decision on Monday, along with setting guidelines for the sale of alcohol.

The sale of petrol and diesel was also stalled due to the lockdown, due to which all the states are suffering a huge loss in revenue. The Punjab government twice sought permission to sell liquor from the Center twice in April citing revenue loss, but the Center did not accept it.
