In order to prevent the effects of the virus in Lockdown 2, the government has ordered 60,884 ventilators. Out of these 59,884 will be produced in the country and only one thousand ventilators will be imported. The aim of this step is to promote the manufacture of medical equipment required in the fight with Covid-19. Chairman of Empowered Group-3 and Pharma Secretary PD Vaghela told on Friday that currently 19,398 ventilators are available in the country. He said that Bharat Electronics Limited (in collaboration with SKUNRE) has been ordered for 30 thousand, AGVG (in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki) 10,000 and AMTZ (AP Medtech Zone) 13,500 ventilators. The Ministry of Health has estimated the demand for 75 thousand ventilators by June.

I Vaghela said that enough oxygen and oxygen cylinders are available in the country. Oxygen production capacity in the country is 6,400 metric tons and out of this, about one thousand metric tons is used as medical oxygen. He told that there are five big and 600 small producers of oxygen in the country. About 409 hospitals have the capacity to produce oxygen themselves and 1,050 cryogenic tankers are available in the country.

"More than four lakh oxygen cylinders are available in the country, which is sufficient according to the current needs. More than one lakh cylinders have been ordered and industrial oxygen is being converted into medical oxygen. Apart from this, an order for change of 60 thousand cylinders has also been given."
