Mumbai: Fear of the new Omicron variant of the Coronavirus found in South Africa is growing rapidly. On the other hand, it has now knocked in India from abroad. Cases have come to light from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Apart from these three, the threat has now increased in the capital Delhi. According to the recent information, 15 passengers who returned from 'high risk' countries in Delhi are admitted to LNJP hospital. Samples of all of them are said to have been sent for genome sequencing which are expected to be reported in 4-5 days.
On the other hand, officials say that 15 suspected patients are hospitalized, out of which 9 are corona positive, while the remaining 6 have symptoms such as sore throat and fever. He has also informed that all of them have been admitted to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP Hospital) of the Delhi Government. In fact, just last week, the Delhi government had reserved LNJP for the treatment of omicron infected people, while the number of suspected patients admitted in the hospital till last Friday was 12, which has now increased to 15. The medical director of the hospital, Dr Suresh Kumar says all the three new patients found have returned from the UK.
The Central Government has placed the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, hong kong and Israel in the list of 'high risk' countries and passengers coming from these countries need to undergo RTPCR tests. On the other hand, these passengers are allowed to leave the airport only after the results are out. Similarly, passengers coming from other countries are also being checked at the airport.
