Four people were detained on Saturday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with two different bribery cases that occurred in Madhya Pradesh and southern India.
Two tax assistants who were assigned to the income-tax departments in Hyderabad (Telangana) and Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) have been detained by the CBI for the exchange of a Rs 60,000 bribe.
According to a formal statement from the CBI, a case was filed against a Senior Tax Assistant working in the Hyderabad office of the Additional Commissioner of Income-Tax (CIT) and another Senior Tax Assistant working in the Visakhapatnam office of the Income Tax Department on the charge that they conspired to demand Rs 1 lakh from the complainant in relation to the complainant's Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) certificate.
In addition, the complainant said that following negotiations, the accused had lowered the amount demanded and instructed the complainant to pay Rs 60,000.
In response to the complaint, the CBI set a trap and, when the Senior Tax Assistant of the Income Department of Hyderabad demanded and accepted his share of the bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant.
