Patna: Mohammad Major, a 48-year-old accused who raped a 6-year-old girl in Bihar's Araria, was sentenced to death by Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-POCSO Court Judge Shashikant Rai of Araria on Thursday. It has also been imposed under Section 3(2)(v) of the IPC, the SC/ST Act, for life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. At the same time, if the accused does not pay the fine, he will be given an additional punishment of 10 days.

During the hearing of the case in the court, advocate Mohammad Naushad, who is defending the rape accused, demanded less punishment from the court, while the victim's lawyer Shyam Lal pleaded for stringent punishment for the convict.
