Patna: Mohammad Major, a 48-year-old accused who raped a 6-year-old girl in Bihar's Araria, was sentenced to death by Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-POCSO Court Judge Shashikant Rai of Araria on Thursday. It has also been imposed under Section 3(2)(v) of the IPC, the SC/ST Act, for life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. At the same time, if the accused does not pay the fine, he will be given an additional punishment of 10 days.
At the same time, the court has also ordered the District Legal Service Authority to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim from the 'Victim's Compensation Fund.' The big thing is that in the case of such a barbaric crime, after just four days of fast trial, the court has given its verdict. The police had filed a chargesheet against the accused of raping the girl on January 12, after which the court framed charges against the accused on January 20, 2022. The court pronounced the verdict about 56 days after the case was registered.
During the hearing of the case in the court, advocate Mohammad Naushad, who is defending the rape accused, demanded less punishment from the court, while the victim's lawyer Shyam Lal pleaded for stringent punishment for the convict. At the same time, the court has also sentenced the convict to death, considering this crime to be the worst.
