Bangalore: Karnataka has been facing acute vaccine shortage amid ever increasing cases of corona virus. In view of this, the Yediyurappa government has directed the health authorities to give a second dose of covid vaccine only to people above the age of 45 years to deal with the shortage of stock of 'Covaxin'.

In an official order on Monday, the state government said that in order to tackle the shortage of covacin in the state of Karnataka, all private health care institutes are advised to make full use of the available stock of covaccine and vaccinate those above the age of 45 years who are waiting for the second dose. In Karnataka, corona infection slipped to 529 people the previous day, taking the death toll to 25,811. The total number of infection cases in the state is 24,50,215. Out of the new cases reported, 5,701 cases have been registered from Bengaluru. The Health Department said in its bulletin that a total of 24,50,215 corona cases have been confirmed in the state as of the evening of May 24, including 25,811 deaths and 19,83,948 people have recovered. The total number of active patients in the state is currently 4,40,435.
