Everyday coronavirus cases in the world tend to surge making many people lose their lives because of this deadly virus. In Colombia, Coronavirus cases topped 900,000 on Saturday, as mortality from COVID-19 closed in on 27,700, the Ministry of Health said. The Andean country has 902,747 confirmed cases of the virus according to the health ministry, with 27,660 reported deaths. Active cases count to 89,925.
The country of Colombia began more than five months of lockdown in March. The country began a much-looser “selective” quarantine in September which allows dining at restaurants, and international flights. It is supposed to last until the end of October. Concerts and other large events remain closed and land and water borders are closed for immigrants. Intensive care units in Bogota, home to almost a third of Colombia’s cases, are at about 64% capacity according to local health authorities.

Since first being recorded late last year in China, the Covid-19 coronavirus has spread around the world and been named as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. However, differences in testing mean that the number of cases may be understated for some countries. Obviously, larger countries tend to have higher numbers both of cases and of deaths. But there have been many other factors in play, such as the demographic profiles of the countries; countries with ageing populations may be hit harder because the disease is more dangerous to older people.
