MEERUT: After eleven members of a household tested positive for Covid in the district, the Yogi Adityanath government decided to activate the Integrated Covid Command Centre (ICCC) in Meerut.

Surveillance teams have also been urged to prepare, according to health officials, and an intense screening campaign will be launched across the area. Passengers from other states will be checked at train stations and bus stops in the meanwhile.

Dr. Akhilesh Mohan, the chief medical officer, has asked the district hospital and medical college to ensure that appropriate oxygen beds are available.

The move follows the recent reports of 20 new cases of Covid in Meerut, including ten members of a family from the Saket region. They're all isolated to their home. According to Dr. Ashok Taliyan, divisional surveillance officer (DSO), one of the ten members was discovered to have a recent travel history. The total number of active cases in the district now stands at 38.

The health department has also asked the police and the district administration to ensure that the Covid-related protocols are strictly followed in public spaces.
