India recorded a single-day rise of 2,151 new Covid-10 cases, the highest in 5 months, while the active cases increased to 11,903, as pre the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday, March 29.

Notably, the  COVID death toll has increased to 5,30,848 with 7  latest fatalities i.e,  3 reported by Maharashtra, 1 by Karnataka and 3 reconciled by Kerala.

Sd prt the data updated at 8 am, the daily positivity was recorded at 1.51 percent, while the weekly positivity was recorded at 1.53 percent.

The total tally of Covid-19 cases was recorded at 4,47,09,676.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra alone reported 397 new cases of coronavirus. As per the report, the case fatality rate in the state is now at 1.82 percent. Pune district has also reported a sharp spike in the daily COVID numbers. As per the data, Pune the city has logged 571 active Covid-19 cases in one single day.
This comes a week after India reported the sudden surge in cases associated with the highly contagious XBB.1.16 variant. As per reportsthis is the most dominant strain in the country currently and is possibly the variant behind the current surge. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on March 28 it is no longer recommending more Covid-19 vaccine booster doses for regular, medium-risk adults, saying the benefit was marginal.

For such people who have already taken their primary vaccination course and one booster dose, there is no risk of having further vaccinating but the returns are slight, the WHO's vaccine experts said.
