NEW DELHI: On Monday, India reported a reduction in new Covid-19 cases. The Union health ministry reported 16,051 new infections and 206 deaths in a 24-hour period.

On Sunday, India reported 19,968 new Covid cases and 673 deaths, with a total of 22,270 new cases reported on Saturday. 

The fresh deaths brought the total number of people killed in the country to 5,12,109.The number of current Covid cases has dropped to 2,01,131, accounting for 0.47 percent of all positive cases in the country. The recovery of 37,901 patients in the last 24 hours has brought the total number of patients recovered to 4,21,24,284. As a result, India's recovery rate is now at 98.33%, according to the Union Health Ministry. A total of 8,31,087 tests were done across the country during the same time period. In total, India has done approximately 76.01 crore tests.

Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate has grown to 2.12%, while the daily positivity rate has increased to 1.93%. As of Sunday morning, India's Covid vaccination coverage had reached 175.46 crore, thanks to the delivery of over seven lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. This was accomplished after 1,98,99,635 sessions.

According to the health ministry, as of Monday morning, more than 11.18 crore balance and unused Covid vaccination doses were still available with the states and union territories to be administered.
