Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), appealed for cooperation and collaboration in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday.

The WHO director-general made the statements during a panel discussion titled "Get Well Soon: Finding a Way Out of the Pandemic" at the Munich Security Conference in Munich, Germany. He called the idea that the pandemic was gone because of high vaccination rates in some nations "dangerous," and he refuted suggestions that the Omicron coronavirus type was less harmful.

According to Tedros, 70,000 people die each week from a preventable and treatable disease, 83 percent of Africa's population has yet to receive a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and healthcare institutions throughout the world are straining and cracking under the heavy caseload.

He informed his totally masked audience, "In reality, the conditions are ripe for more transmissible, more hazardous variants to emerge." "This year, we can put a stop to the COVID-19 epidemic as a global health emergency. We have the resources. We know what we're doing "He was determined. Tedros urged all governments to contribute $16 billion to the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, which aims to make vaccines, testing, treatments, and personal protective equipment more widely available.

The ACT-Accelerator was founded in April 2020, just weeks after the pandemic was proclaimed, to accelerate the development and availability of COVID-19 testing, treatments, and vaccines. COVAX, a worldwide vaccination solidarity initiative, is one of the organization's four pillars.

"Frankly, $16 billion is nothing compared to the price of another year of economic turmoil," he added. According to Tedros, significant resources were required both nationally and globally to ensure global health security. "Our major focus must be on putting an end to the pandemic. Likewise, we must learn the lessons it offers us " he said.
