NEW DELHI: India has seen a dramatic drop in new cases of COVID-19, with only 124 infections reported in the past 24 hours, the health ministry reported on Tuesday from New Delhi. Also, the number of active cases has decreased to 3,001.
Health experts claim that the decline in reported cases has also led to a decrease in the number of hospital admissions. However, they claimed that older people with underlying medical issues continue to be prone to infection.
Medical professionals advise such vulnerable populations to continue following COVID-19 safety recommendations and get booster doses if they haven't already. Scientists believe that the formation of hybrid immunity in the Indian population - from both vaccination and earlier infection - should prevent the present version from producing serious diseases. The XBB.1.16 variant was primarily responsible for the latest rise.
There were above 445 million people recuperated from the virus, including 314 in the last day alone. The recovery rate now stands at an impressive 98.81%.
In order to stop the spread of the virus, the ministry has advised the governments of the states and the UT to adopt a risk assessment-based strategy. 40,594 tests were run yesterday, bringing the total to almost 92.93 billion. The nation has now received over 220.67 billion doses of vaccination, with 615 of those doses given just the previous day.
