The Union Health Department also confirmed on Saturday that the CDSCO's Subject Expert Committee (SEC) recommended permitting the Serum Institute of India for limited emergency use of kovshield in India, which has been subject to several regulatory conditions .
As to this, the ministry said, "The SEC of CDSCO met on January 1 and 2 and sent recommendations to the Controller General of Drugs of India (DCGI) for consideration and final decision on it." Covaxine has been developed indigenously by Bharat Biotech in association with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It has been learned that CDSCO's subject Expert Committee on Corona Virus re-discussed the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical firm's application of the emergency use of the vaccine after handing over additional data, facts and analysis. On December 7, India Biotech filed an application before the Controller General of Pharmaceuticals of India (DCGI) for the approval of the indigenously developed cocaine vaccine.
