COVID-19: Five new Omicron cases reported in Karnataka

Bangalore- Karnataka: On Sunday, Karnataka confirmed five cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, according to state Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar. Five new Omicron infections were discovered in two clusters, with two educational institutions in Dakshin Kannada reporting one cluster each, according to the minister. He stated that the sixth case involved a traveller who had returned from the United Kingdom.

One of the new cases involves a male patient, while the other four involve female patients. Dharwad, Bhadravathi, Udupi, and Mangaluru have all reported cases. Karnataka has reported 13 cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, with the confirmation of new infections.

On November 25, a new variant of COVID-19 was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) from South Africa. According to the WHO, the first confirmed B.1.1.529 infection was found in a specimen collected on November 9 of this year. On November 26, the WHO designated the new COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529, detected in South Africa, as 'Omicron.' Omicron has been designated as a 'variant of concern' by the World Health Organization.
