Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 surge continues in Kerala with 8,511 new infections. Covid-19 cases in Kerala are picking up momentum. On Friday Kerala reported 8,511 new cases of Covid-19, said a statement from the office of Health Minister K K Shailaja. 64,789 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. 7,269 developed the disease through contact. Among them, the virus source of 1012 is unknown. 6,118 recoveries were also reported on Friday. 26 deaths were confirmed in the state taking the COVID death toll to 1,281. The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Malappuram – 1375, Thrissur – 1020, Thiruvananthapuram – 890, Ernakulam – 874, Kozhikode – 751, Alappuzha – 716, Kollam – 671, Palakkad – 531, Kannur – 497, Kottayam – 426, Pathanamthitta – 285, Kasaragod – 189, Wayanad – 146 and Idukki – 140.
