New Delhi: In a health briefing on Thursday, Dr Balram Bhargava, the head of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), stated that COVID-19 vaccinations have significantly reduced deaths in this third wave of coronavirus illness.
Dr. Bhargava stated today at a Union health briefing in New Delhi, "Vaccines have proven to be effective in India. COVID-19 immunizations have resulted in a significant reduction in deaths. We are currently not seeing severe sickness or deaths as a result of high vaccine uptake in this third COVID spike."
Meanwhile, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan stated that the ministry will enhance COVID-19 vaccination coverage and make a judgment based on scientific data on vaccine doses against coronavirus infection for children under the age of 15.
"We will continue to expand vaccine coverage as scientific data develops. We will make judgments based on scientific evidence of COVID-19 vaccination for children under the age of 15 "According to the health secretary.
The subject expert committee (SEC) of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) recommended regular market approval for Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccines Covaxin and Covishield with conditions for the adult population, but Bhushan said the national regulator has yet to make a final decision.
