Kolkata: Sitaram Yechury, the national general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), will no longer be able to go to the Rajya Sabha for the third time. On the way to Yechury's upper house, his own party and its rules have become bigger. Along with the CPM unit of Bengal, the proposal to send Sitaram Yechury to Rajya Sabha with the help of Congress has been rejected by the party's top command ie Politburo.

Voting is to be held on March 26 for the five Rajya Sabha seats of West Bengal. In terms of the number of MLAs in West Bengal, four Rajya Sabha seats are certain to go to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the remaining one can go to the account of others. In such a situation, Congress and CPIM can together capture a Rajya Sabha seat. Not only CPM in Bengal, even after joining the entire Left parties, there are not enough MLAs to send Sitaram Yechury to the Upper House on his own.

The left unit of Bengal sent a proposal to send Yechury to the Rajya Sabha with the support of the Congress. If sources are to be believed, in a meeting held in Delhi's CPIM headquarters on February 6, the members of the Politburo rejected the proposal to send Sitaram Yechury to the Upper House for the third time, citing the party's rules, which made his path difficult.
