Kolkata:  CPI(M) leader veteran Ashok Bhattacharya said that BCCI Chief Sourav Ganguly is under pressure to join politics. Sourav Ganguly has been admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack on Saturday. There has been an uproar after this statement of Sourav Ganguly's old friend Ashok Bhattacharya.

There were speculations that former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly might join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections to be held in April-May this year. But Sourav Ganguly himself never said anything about getting into politics. He underwent angioplasty after a mild heart attack on Saturday. Ganguly is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Kolkata.

Bhattacharya has been a friend of Sourav Ganguly for a long time. He said, "Some people want to use Ganguly for politics. This has put him under pressure. He is not for politics. He should remain as the ideal of the game". Bhattacharya said, "We should not pressurize him to join politics. I told Sourav last week that he should not come into politics and he did not oppose my point."
